Make a Bold Statement with Your Wall Art.

Have you been living with whites and beiges for years now? Are you ready for a change? Well, I love my creamy white walls, but I also love color, so using colorful art is ideal for me. Whether you opt for bold colors, muted tones, or want to stick with neutrals there is so much to choose from out there. This collection of ideas will hopefully inspire you for your next decorating project.

Wall art is such a vital element of every room.  It’s the way you add your personality to a space.  When you hang a statement art piece it becomes a focal point and sets the mood for the room. Many times that statement piece is the best starting point for the rest of the room’s decor. You can pull colors from your art to create a cohesive room.

Bold And Colorful

This is a great example of adding bold color to your neutral walls and tying it together with the pillows. Just a little pop of color added to your neutrals will give the room a whole different feel.

Go BIG!  When it comes to hanging art above a sofa or headboard, or piece of furniture there’s a helpful guideline known as the 2/3 Rule. Here’s how it works:

The 2/3 Rule for Hanging Art:

    • Your art piece should ideally be two-thirds the size of the sofa, headboard, or piece of furniture it’s hanging above.
    • This proportion helps give it visual balance and prevents the art from overwhelming the room.
    • Remember this is a guideline, so use your own judgment to fudge a little, and if you love it, do it!!!

When you’re hanging art over wallpaper, always consider the scale. What makes this work so well is that the scale of the flowers in the painting is larger than the scale of the wallpaper pattern, so they don’t compete with each other.

If you find a painting that “speaks to you”, use your intuition, if you love it then it’s right for you! It doesn’t need to be trendy. It needs to be something that you will enjoy seeing every day.

Neutrals

Neutral colors range from white to black and all variations of grays and browns. Artwork in neutrals can be dramatic like this black and white painting or more subtle and calming like the two images below this one.

Using texture like this all white piece is a perfect pairing with the patterned wallpaper. The texture adds lots of interest without being busy.

I love everything about this little touch of drama!

Muted Tones

A softer or more muted color pallet can still make a big statement in a room.

Using a large painting in lighter colors and muted tones can help elevate your bedroom’s decor while creating a soothing atmosphere.

This one is for all of you out there who love plants but do not have a green thumb 🙂

You can hang beautiful art in every room of your home.

Choosing art for your home can be really fun.  Here are a few final thoughts:

  • Use the 2/3 rule for visual balance. (I like to call it a guideline)
  • Hang paintings 6 to 12 inches above the back of your sofa.
  • Use your intuition, buy what you love, not what is trendy.
