TELL YOUR FAMILY’S STORY WITH A PHOTO GALLERY WALL

Do you love looking back at family photos? Why not fill your hallway or stairwell with memories you can see every day?  A family photo gallery wall is a great way to spark memories of important milestones like 1st birthdays or high school graduations.  It’s also a perfect spot for family photos from special vacations, weddings or those photos of multiple generations that are so sentimental.  Read on for tips and tricks to create your own photo gallery wall.

Choosing Your Photos

When you get ready to start choosing the photos take a minute to think about each family member and their personalities.  It can be fun to add pictures that really represent them. Maybe a candid shot of someone’s signature funny expressions, or an action shot of someone playing a sport they love. Having photos of loved ones at different stages of their life can fill your gallery with some heartwarming memories.   Mix individual shots like portraits or school pictures in with some group shots to give your gallery variety.

Gallery Layout

There are so many ways to arrange your photos, but when each photo carries equal importance, a “simple is best” layout works really well. The best way to achieve this is to use the same frame in a grid pattern. The simple clean lines make the photos the stars of the show!  This means cropping or printing all of your photo’s the same size to fit the frames.

The first two pictures below show a grid design which is an easy way to display a lot of photos in a simple layout. This is a  layout idea that works well for hallways and almost any size wall. Beside the layouts shown, you can also use the grid layout in a square pattern, three-by-three or four-by-four pictures for example, depending on your wall space.

The next two are an offset pattern. This design looks a little more complicated, but using tools like the ones mentioned below in the tips for hanging photos section will simplify the hanging process.

If you have an empty corner, think about filling it with your family photos. It’s a great way to make a focal point in a room without taking up any floor space.

Tips for Hanging Photos

The number one tip for hanging your photos is to always lay them out on the floor to see how it will look first.

When you use the same frame for all of the photos, being able to hang them in a straight line is easier. A laser level is a lifesaver too when you need a long level line to work from.

This picture hanging tool will also save you lots of time.  I have one and I’ll never hang another picture without it.

I also swear by Monkey Hooks. They are by far the simplest way to hang any picture.

There are lots of frame options on Amazon. This set of 9 frames is an affordable choice and they come in several finishes.
