Step-By-Step
OK, it was time for me to give it a try. On this first one, I decided to try to make one in the style of the above painting by @aclaracris. I start by squeezing a little paint on the paper and using a small squeegee to make the first stroke just off-center. Continue changing colors and making more strokes until you have a composition that you like. I made sure not to get too close to the edge of the paper. I didn’t get a picture of the last layer of blue paint in the bottom right before I did the linework. After the paint dried, I used a black marker to trace the lines of the paint strokes and added the linework.
On this second one, I decided to try to make one similar to @jackie-natale-artist. I used gray, light blues, and green.
First, I loaded the gray paint onto the squeegee instead of putting it directly on the paper and dragged it across. I didn’t use a lot of pressure so that it would skip some areas.
Not using pressure also left the paint a little thicker in some areas so I let each layer dry before adding the next.
I repeated the same process with each layer in random areas until I was happy with my results.
Every painting has its “ugly stage” but removing the tape can make all the difference.
I hope these artists on Instagram and YouTube have inspired you to try Squeegee painting!
