Let's Start With Your Office Chair

Most of your time will likely be spent sitting in your office chair. There are lots of options to choose from.  I personally believe that an ergonomic office chair is the best choice. They’re not only comfortable and supportive for your back, hips, and neck but there are also many really nice-looking chairs to work with just about any style of decor.

This one really has it all. Lots of support and adjustments. It even has a fold-out footrest. Basically, it turns into a recliner. I think this cream option is really nice but there are other colors available too.

I chose to show this chair in green but there are nine other colors to choose from. With lumber supports and a cushioned seat, this chair could be just the comfortable pop of color that your office needs.

Sometimes an armless chair is the best solution and I love this one. The stitching lines are really pretty and  this chair would look great with any decor style. Believe it or not, there are 14 colors to choose from.

This ergonomic chair has support points for your head, hips, and back. According to the manufacturer, this chair can support up to 330 pounds.

Work Surface

In your home office, it’s always a good idea to make your desk or work surface your dedicated space to work or study. It will help you create a sense of structure and routine so you can be more productive and I’m pretty sure that we could all use that.

If you ever want to get out of your comfortable chair and stand up to work, this type of convertible desk is a good option. It has an electric lift with memory buttons. There is also a really good installation video for this desk.

Wood and rattan furniture just has a timeless appeal that blends well with so many interior design styles. This desk with its storage behind the rattan door is great for a small home office.

I love the simple lines of this desk.  There is also an L-shaped version of this one at the same link.  The desktop has 2 grommets to organize your cords. This maple color is my favorite, but it also comes in espresso, cherry, oak, and white.

Do you need quick access to files? This desk has 2 file drawers as well as 4 smaller drawers for your other office supplies and the center drawer can be used as a flip-down drawer for your keyboard.  A desk like this can be an all-in-one solution.

This desk definitely makes a statement with its angular metal legs. A 63″ long workspace gives you plenty of room to spread out.

A desk with vertical storage like this one is such a great choice when you have limited space. This desk is just under 4 feet and its three shelves can be a lifesaver.

Task Lighting

Task lighting is such an important element of a good home office design. By using task lighting effectively you can reduce eye strain and fatigue. If you have your lamp sitting on the side it’s a good idea to place it on the opposite side of your dominant hand to avoid casting shadows on your work surface.

This tall adjustable desk lamp has 3 color modes and 12 dimmable brightness levels. The base has a built-in Qi wireless charge for your Qi-enabled smartphone, earbuds, or watches.

With a 17″ long light, this clamp-on gooseneck lamp has a silicone pad so it won’t scratch your desktop or work surface. It has uniform brightness, and no glare which protects your eyesight and reduces eye fatigue.

Two monitors are often necessary for some work-from-home jobs. This task light is perfect for that. It also has a built-in 15W fast wireless charging function as well as a USB charging.

This versatile task light is designed with RG0 lamp beads and professional optical lenses, which 100% prevent hazardous blue light so it protects your eyes from fatigue. You’ll have a choice of 5 color temperatures and 10 brightness levels as well as a 360° adjustable gooseneck that will project the light to any position needed.

If you spend time on video conferences or are a content creator, you may want to consider this ring light. You can clip it directly to your laptop or use the flexible tripod. This one also has 5 color temperature and 5 brightness level adjustment.

Here’s another ring light with a weighted adjustable base for stability and a foam rubber bottom prevents scratches on your desk. The adjustable stand is 22″ to 29″ tall and has a phone holder. This one has 3 color modes and 10 brightness levels.

Storage

It’s important to have a designated space for everything so you can easily access the things you need when you need them. Clutter can accumulate very quickly in a home office so having a plan to keep everything in organized is essential.

This is just a great looking piece of furniture that also happens to be a file cabinet that can hold letter or legal-size files. The cabinet is also available in black with natural rattan insets in the drawers.

Here’s a file cabinet on rollers that can fit under most desks to save space or stand-alone to use as a surface for your printer. This style has one file drawer and two smaller drawers. There is another style at this same link that has two file drawers. It also comes in white or black.

Are you looking for one piece of furniture that can be multifunctional? This is a budget-friendly cabinet that can store files, office supplies and hold your printer.

A bookcase like this can hold just about everything you need. This is a picture of two bookcases side by side. Each one is about 30″ wide and 14″ deep with two shelves behind the doors.

Do you like to keep clutter to a minimum? A cabinet like this will do that for you. Everything you use can be tucked away behind closed doors. With adjustable shelves, you can customize it to fit your needs.

Another storage idea to think about is adding a FUN accent piece to your home office that also gives you plenty of storage space. This credenza has 16″ deep shelves and is almost 5′ long.

The Small Things That Really Make A Big Difference

There are several small items that can significantly help with your overall comfort, health, and productivity while you are working in your home office.

An under-desk footrest helps you maintain a more neutral posture by allowing you to lean into the support of your chair. By elevating your feet, you will relieve pressure on your legs and help improve your blood circulation.

Noise-canceling earphones help to create a quiet environment by blocking out background noise and allowing for better focus and concentration. These have a microphone for phone calls and Alexa voice control.

You may prefer earbuds. These are also noise-canceling and have a microphone for phone calls. It’s really a personal preference but the idea is the same. Less outside noise and more focus.

A laptop stand elevates the screen to your eye level, reducing neck strain. There are many different ones available out there but this one is adjustable so that you can set it at the perfect height for you.

If you’re using a laptop stand, a wireless keyboard will definitely be on your list. Here’s a good one that comes with adjustable tilt legs, a texture palm rest and it comes with a mouse.

The Apple wireless keyboard will connect to your Mac, iPad, and iPhone. They say that the long-lasting internal battery will power your keyboard for about a month or more between charges depending on your use.

If your work surface doesn’t have drawers for storage, these desk organizers are priceless. Keep pens, sticky notes, notebooks, planners and papers right at your fingertips.

Here’s a handy little gadget. This document holder clips to your laptop or monitor to hold your papers at eye level to reduce strain on your neck. It comes with an adapter to mount to larger screens.

Last but not least on this list… a cup warmer to keep your coffee or hot tea going as long as you do!
